Changing Seasons
Nostalgia is born in autumn
Rises from the ash of spring
In winter dies the haughty goals
We knew summer would bring
In Spring blossoms the determined fate
To be new under summer sky
Yet in Autumn's chill we are forced to hate
The early winter that will watch it die
The we of winter was so different
Than the summer of our youth
The courage spring seeks to grow
Drifts to dust in autumn hues
The persistent marching of the seasons
Breaks more hearts than years combined
But we don’t cry because the seasons change
We weep because we didn’t
i like how you trace back events in your life to seasons, your emotion (which feels angry) is so strong. im curious about "haughty" in the first stanza, though. what goals are you describing? it might be helpful to describe them throughout the poem to maintain consistency.
ReplyDeleteI really love this poem. The use of seasons in every stanza fits so well and really brings them to life. It was as if every season was personified by being given a set of themed emotions. The last stanza is my favorite because it neatly and cleanly wraps up the poem by saying "seasons" instead of every line being a different season. As well as then brining the poem back to the reader in the last line. Overall 10/10 I love this poem
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous poem that personifies the seasons, specifically fall, so elequently. That being said 'born' is past tense and the is, as well as, some of stanza 1 is present tense... Other than that this is super well written and conveys such amazing language.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh love this! You sort of make autumn into a person as you describe it so cool. The way you wind through seasons and emotions is so unique. No suggestions I just love this so much.
